I am the first to argue that you need to position yourself and provided you find the right market you can really charge what you like! The other side of the coin is this constant argument from my partner about buying local. The fact that it is simply too expensive to buY local!

The argument for buying and supporting local crafts/businesses is a strong one; and I for one and happy to support it. The only problem I have is about the price tag. Why is it that local should necessarily be more expensive.

Why is it I can buy an imported shirt for R69 and that I should pay R1200 for a local shirt. Yes I get the fact that it is exclusive and 1 of a kind; but can you really justify the price difference??

I can also understand that many of the locals target the overseas type clientele (and use this to justify the high prices) or argue that the local market is just not large enough; but then perhaps it is time for someone to design something a little funky and exclusive; something designed for the man in the street – the South African street and South African pocket!!!!! If its affordable

I will support the brand and buy it – but then for goodness sake make it affordable. Lets face it there is a heck of a gap between R69 and R1200…
